A Kind of Spark

Story

At school 11-year-old Addie learns about the witch trials that took place in her home town in Scotland. Addie is shocked that people accused of witchcraft were persecuted and that their stories have been forgotten. She knows that there’s more to the story of those so-called ‘witches’ – just as there’s more to her. Addie, who is autistic, has experienced for herself the way people perceived as being ‘different’ can be treated. As Addie tries to get her small town to make a memorial for the ‘witches’, will she also challenge the way they see her?

Why we chose it

A compelling story with an engaging narrator. It’s easy to form strong relationships with the characters.
