Story
Chinye, a kind and hardworking girl, lives with her cruel stepmother and lazy stepsister. Chinye is cruelly used as a servant and has to do all the chores every day. One day, near dusk, her stepmother asks Chinye to get water from the river. Chinye is scared to walk through the forest in the dark but she must. In the forest she meets a variety of creatures, and when she discovers a mysterious old woman, she is rewarded for her kindness with a magical gourd filled with riches. Not to be outdone, her stepmother sends out her own daughter to find a bigger gourd with more riches. Why we chose it
A story which shows the values of respect and resilience, it’s great to tell as there’s lots of rhythm and repetition that children can join in with.
