The Bletchley Riddle

I absolutely loved reading The Bletchley Riddle! Set in the Second World War, Lizzie and Jakob are siblings but have two very different personalities. Lizzie is bubbly, straightforward and funny, whereas Jakob is more of a serious mathematician who works as a code breaker at Bletchley Park. Lizzie is supposed to be travelling to Cleveland to see her Gran and be safe from the war, however she has other ideas. Escaping from Gran’s gullible butler Fleetwood, Lizzie somehow manages to find her brother and the secret work that he’s doing. Now at Bletchley, the two of them have separate jobs, Jakob as a code breaker struggling to solve the German Enigma machine and Lizzie as a messenger between huts and people. However, Lizzie has another secret mission. It’s to find Willa, her mother who disappeared when helping evacuate the American embassy in Warsaw. Her brother won’t believe she’s alive, but Lizzie cannot and won’t extinguish the flame of hope inside her heart. But when war looms closer and Hitler’s forces attack nearer, can the siblings complete their jobs without destroying the war effort? This is an incredible book filled with twists and turns, with lots of codes and mysteries. I really liked the character of Lizzie, I thought she was brilliant and brave and funny and I also liked the fact it had real people in the story like Alan Turing. Just in general, I thought it was a great book and had lots to love. I loved it so much, I raced through it in two days and couldn’t tear my eyes away. I liked all the codes because it was really interesting and it was so action-packed, there were no boring bits at all.
