Although dated now, the Famous Five stories are fondly remembered by many and still read by children today.

I read The Famous Five series around the age of 9 and they quickly became my favourite. When I asked my mum what books she read as a child, she also mentioned the series. These books are timeless, incorporating childhood innocence and rebellion with mystery, crime-solving and built up suspense. The overall technical aspect of the books is quite simple, understandable for younger children. However it is also written in a style of that from the 1940s, the era when they were published. This might repel some readers, for example my 10 year old sister who did not appreciate the style and stopped reading. Despite this, The Famous Five is still a much loved classic series today.
