Isabella is the daughter of a map maker. She lives with her father on the island of Joya. She has been dreaming of exploring faraway lands for a long time. When her friend disappears, she volunteers to look for her. Armed only with her father’s maps and knowledge of myths and the stars, she embarks on a journey through a world of monsters and magical rivers.

This adventurous book is about a girl called Isabella, a cartographer’s daughter, who said some mean words to her best friend, Lupe (the governor’s daughter). Lupe was devastated and drifted off to the forgotten forest and Isabella went searching for her. There lies perilous danger as the forest’s deepest, darkest secrets are unravelled. What will they face? What discoveries have they found? This book has interesting features and abundant care taken in the story. There are cliff hangers so it’s hard to finish when you want to. This book is lovely, especially the words. Reader’s perfection (I think).
